2011 - I am not sure what this year will bring... I plan to get Tori back out in the show ring and finish her so she also has an AKC CH Title. That would make her the fifth dog I put a Championship title on since becoming involved in the breed in 1999. Currently Tori has 14 points (including all her majors). I plan to breed Sydni again later this year. Tori will be probably be bred in 2012. By then she will have her AKC Championship and the necessary health testing (OFA, BAER and CERF) performed.
In 2010, I went to an outside breeder to purchase my first puppy in 8 years. I chose a puppy girl from Hollow Log Kennels. I was in Florida for work and brought the puppy back with me to surprise my husband. That is why the little girl was named Hollow Log Victorias Secret at Adams Ranch. We called this pretty little girl "Tori". In May, Tori and Shelby were entered in the ACD Regional and Shelby won an Award of Merit and once again won "Best Veteran". Later in May Tori won her first points - TWO Majors one of which was also Best Opposite Sex - quite an accomplishment for a 6 month old puppy!
On a local level, we did limited showing in 2009. One nice accomplishment was that Shelby (CH SF Diamond In The Ruff) was able to be shown again late in 2009 during the ACD Regional Specialty in Long Beach. Because she is spayed, the Specialties are the only time I am able to show her. She became a "veteran" in June and so I entered her in the Veteran Bitch Class at the Specialty in December. I was very please when she was awarded Best Veteran. I also attempted to breed Sydni (CH SF Adams I've Got Eyes For Ewe) twice. In May she didn't want anything to do with the Stud Dog so that was an unsuccessful breeding. In November, I did artificial insemination to a dog that lived in another state. Unfortunately that breeding only produced one puppy and he was stillborn.
Where did 2008 go? It seems as though the year just began and then it was over. We did very little competition in 2009. At the beginning of the year we were waiting for the litter I whelped in November to grow up and I finished Sydni in May 2008. At the end of May I began showing Target, her half brother and he won his first Major at 6 months of age. We were getting ready to attend the ACD National Specialty in PA when I was contacted by an individual that was looking for a show prospect but also for a companion for her rescue female cattle dog. It was a tough decision but I decided to place Target in another home. He is a good natured puppy and we were trying to downsize our kennel at the time so it was a good home for him. His new owner continued showing him for a while but his confidence level needed to be a little higher so she decided to take some time off to build that before returning to the show ring.
We hope that 2008 turns out to be a better year for us than 2007 was. In January 2007, we lost Scooter our first cattle dog to what we believe was a heart tumor. It was a very quick loss and we miss him terribly.
In 2007, we had two litters produced here after three years with no puppies. Two litters in one year takes a lot of commitment... But we did receive some nice puppies out of these two litters. Sydni stayed here from the first litter that was born in April. She is the granddaughter of my first show dog, Max and holds a special place in my heart as a result. She has many of his traits, stubbornness being one of them! Target stayed with us from the second litter that was born in November. He was a pleasure to have around and is a BIG goof ball. Both Sydni and Target spent their days romping and playing in the dirt. It is nice to know that they clean up nicely for the show ring though as both were competing in Conformation shows. Sydni is now an AKC Champion, and while Target is just starting out, he is Major Pointed.
In 2007 we bred our second litter. Luke (CH SF Adams The Chosen One) was the sire. He was bred to Lucy, a bitch we leased from Lynn Carter's "Shallazar" Kennels. Lynn was instrumental in helping my breeding program get started as she also leased me Tegan - Luke's dam. From this breeding, we kept a beautiful girl - Sydni (CH SF Adams I've Got Eyes For Ewe) who followed in the steps of her father Luke and grandfather Max. She became an AKC Champion at just over a year of age (my youngest dog to finish the requirements to receive an AKC Champion title so far). She is being shown on a limited basis as a Special to keep her in shape. She qualified for the 2008 and 2010 Eukanuba Invitational - following in the footsteps of her father Luke and grandfather Max who were also invited to attend.
2006 was both a good year and a bad year for us here at Adams Ranch ACDs. In September 2006, Max, my first show dog lost his 1-1/2 year battle with lymphoma. It was difficult to loose my first Show Dog but I am grateful that he is no longer suffering from this disease. I saw him deteriorate from a top ranked show dog to a dog with no muscle tone and little endurance.
In the past year they have been doing a lot of research and there is talk of a vaccine in the future for lymphoma. They also say they can run a blood test to see if your dog is susceptible to getting Lymphoma in the future.
In December 2006, Luke (Max's son) won an Award of Excellence at at the Eukanuba Invitational following in the footsteps of his father who won the Best of Breed and Best Bred By Exhibitor Competition in 2003. He is now being promoted on the East coast by Kelly Ann Rea and we look forward to a nice Special Career for him.
Yuppie, Shelby, and Jed are enjoying life just being our companions and keeping each other in line.
