December 29, 2007 The puppies are five weeks old. This week they became much more active and are spending their days playing more and trying to determine who will be the pack leader. There are several dominant puppies in this litter so "puppy battles" are frequent. last about 20 - 30 seconds and then are over. The seventh born puppy (girl) continues to be the smallest weight wise but is very nicely put together proportionately. The sixth puppy (boy) continues to be the heaviest. The rest are middle of the range in weight as compared to previous litters we have raised here. They had their first "long car ride" to Las Vegas, NV to get microchipped. We split the litter into two crates for the trip. They started out crying for about the first 10 - 15 minutes, but like small children, the motion of the car put them to sleep. None of them got car sick. In Las Vegas, they were compared to their "cousins" - the puppies from Abby's litter that is 10 days younger (see the picture below). They also had their first experience on gravel. Their little feet have been exposed to newpapers, plastic (inside the wading pool that served as a whelping box), blankets, concrete, cold floor tile and (very briefly) carpet. Puppies potty a lot so we don't want any accidents on the carpet! To see pictures of Lucy's litter at eight weeks old click here. To see pictures of Lucy's litter at seven weeks old click here.
